Swiss Watch Timing Competitions Returns

Timing competitions ended in Switzerland in 1972, due to the "invasion" of Japanese watches and their inexpensive, yet extremely accurate quartz movements. Due to a recent rise interest, the contest has been brought to the competition table and is scheduled for May 2009 in Le Locle, Switzerland with a deadline for entry as December 31, 2008 Such powerhouses like Swatch, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Chopart, Tissot and many other have entered the contest to mark their position in the industry. There are two main types of watches- the mechanical watch and the quartz watch. Lets look at them in detail. A mechanical watch is a device for keeping time, which uses the energy from a wound spring, and keeps time through the highly regulated release of that energy through a set of gears (the wheel train) and an escapement.
