Swiss Watch Timing Competitions Returns
Written by admin on May 31, 2009 – 11:08 pm -After a thirty year hiatus, Swiss timing competitions stage a return. Timing competitions ended in Switzerland in 1972, due to the "invasion" of Japanese watches and their inexpensive, yet extremely accurate quartz movements.
Due to a recent rise interest, the contest has been brought to the competition table and is scheduled for May 2009 in Le Locle, Switzerland with a deadline for entry as December 31, 2008
Such powerhouses like Swatch, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Chopart, Tissot and many other have entered the contest to mark their position in the industry.
The 2009 competition will be headed by the Le Locle watchmaking museum to honor their 50 years of business and is confined to watches made in Europe and ex-Soviet republics, excluding Japan, China and the United States.
The contest runs 45-day trials on all watches entered and will be made up of three 15-day timing tests according to the ISO 3159 chronometer certification. To be conducted by CASC and on by the Besancon Observatory.
Each watch will be subjected to rigorous tests, including shocks and magnetic fields, a budding disadvantage for susceptible tourbillion. The will be rated in their entirety, not just their movements.
Result will be posted here when they become available.
