Vintage Watches: Aged to Perfection

Written by admin on October 29, 2009 – 6:41 pm -

What you should know about buying vintage If you want a timepiece with stand-out style—or just one that no one else can get—think vintage. But in watchspeak, vintage means more than just cool-looking or rare. Edward Faber, owner of New York vintage retailer Aaron Faber Gallery, uses the term to define collectible watches made between 1935 (roughly when Swiss technological improvements like shockproofing were invented) and 1985 (when CAD/CAM, a computer system that factored out the watchmaker’s hand, became the manufacturing standard). Whether you’re buying a $500 Hamilton or a $50,000 Patek Philippe, you’re making an investment—one that could pay off significantly over time. Here, Edward Faber, owner of New York vintage retailer... more

Vintage Watches Make Great Collector’s Items

Written by admin on October 29, 2009 – 6:27 pm -

Timepieces have been developed for centuries. Starting as sundials and evolving to sophisticated pieces of machinery and technology, watches have been sought after and appreciated as functional and appealing accessories. Men in particular have been interested lately in the collecting of classic watches, since many vintage timepieces were designed for men and many women's watch models were not created until relatively recently on the horticulture timeline. Classic or vintage watches make amazing collector's items and gifts for collectors because of all they can bring to a collection, all of the experience and excitement that goes along with such a piece of history. Timepieces have long been not just functional as time-tellers, but also as indicators... more

Vintage Watches: A Timeless Investment Choice

Written by admin on October 29, 2009 – 5:00 pm -

By: Carolin Schober, CNBC Correspondent As investors continue to ponder whether the recovery in markets is sustainable, some may find that this is the time to put their money in an asset class that lasts. The downturn has hit the luxury watch market hard. Luxury watch exports from Switzerland, where many of the premium brands are manufactured, have seen a decline of 25 percent over the past 9 months and the slump in demand was especially severe for watches made of precious metals. However, the picture for "retail" luxury watches seems to bear little resemblance with the "collectible" luxury watch markets for brands such as Patek Philippe, Jaeger Le Coultre or Vacheron Constantin. Sales of luxury collectible watches have been more resilient... more

Movado Women’s Esperanza Gold-Plated Stainless Steel Watch

Written by admin on October 27, 2009 – 5:23 pm -

Movado Women's Esperanza Gold-Plated Stainless Steel Watch #0606069 Featuring the utterly recognizable, minimalist look of the Museum Watch dial, this gold-plated stainless steel women's Movado Esperanza Swiss quartz watch offers a nod to the origin of Movado's name, which is translated as "always in motion" in the international language of Esperanto. The black dial face includes just the signature single dotted marker at 12 o'clock--evocative of a sun dial--and two sword-shaped hands. (Movado's Museum watch is often referred to as the "boss's watch" due to its vague display of time and because the boss doesn't have to be on time.) Powered by a precise Swiss quartz movement, it also features a highly scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and... more

Vacheron Constantin Kallania awarded best High Jewelery watch in Vogue Jewels Awards 2009

Written by admin on October 7, 2009 – 8:48 pm -

At the Vogue Jewels Awards 2009 in Madrid Spain, the exceptional haute joaillerie ladies timepiece "Kallania" from Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin claimed the prize in the Best Jewellery Watch category. The Kallania, debuted by Vacheron Constantin at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) exhibition in January of this year, is already considered a spiritual successor of the venerable brand's mythic Kallista diamond watch--a unique creation of the gem-setters art introduced thirty years ago which quickly established itself as the world's most expensive wristwatch. The cuff-styled Vacheron Constantin Kallania, crafted entirely from 18-karat white gold displays a glorious canvas of 186 bead-set emerald cut diamonds across... more
