Breitling Creates Avenger Seawolf Chrono Blacksteel Watch

At Baselworld 2010, Breitling is to unveil its new Avenger Seawolf Chrono Blacksteel watch. The timepiece is best characterized as robust and highly technical.

The zest of the new Breitling watch is the brand’s exclusive, patented magnetic push-piece system concealed inside the case. The system allows to activate the timepiece through the metal case with no direct mechanical contact. Most chronograph watches cannot be activated while diving, but this system provides the Avenger Seawolf Chrono with the total water-resistance and functionality at a record 1,000-meter depth.

The Breitling watch also boasts the brand’s exclusive thermocompensated SuperQuartz TM movement, Breitling 73 calibre. The outstanding COSC-certified mechanism offers the precision ten times greater than the precision provided by common quartz movements. The SuperQuartz TM movement measures times to 1/10 of a second and indicates intermediary times.

The watch provides a range of useful functions: hours, minutes, seconds, date, split-seconds chronograph, and direction memory.

The steel case of the Avenger Seawolf Chrono measures 45.4 mm in diameter and is provided with ultra-resistant carbon coating. The case incorporates a ratcheted unidirectional rotating bezel. The face of the watch is shielded by a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides.

The Breitling watch demonstrates a flange with the compass card to be used for memorizing directions above and below water.

The volcano black dial is completed with luminescent hour-markers and hands, including the central direct-drive seconds-hand and split-seconds hand. You will notice the 12-hour chronograph counter at 10 o’clock, while the 1/10-second counter is positioned at 2 o’clock. The date window is found at 4 o’clock.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms diver watches constitute the apex of the company's Sports Collection. Fifty Fathoms timepieces combine technologically advanced movement (Calibre 1315) with a leaner, more restrained design than the testosterone-pumped Speed Command and Air Command. Yet despite shedding some “muscle mass”, the collection displays unmistakable masculine character – only instead of a body-builder's physique, the watches show off a swimmer's body, as appropriate for a diver watch. Fifty Fathoms include a women's line, which abandons the deep black in favor of a more mellow mother-of-pearl (also appropriately found in the sea) off-white palette.

All Fifty Fathoms watches include a unidirectional rotating bezel (to prevent it from moving accidentally backwards and deceiving the diver by showing more than actual amount of remaining diving time and air), large illuminated indexes and numerals, and massive illuminated hands. As exemplified on the website, the focused glow enables to read time quickly in dark conditions. Red-tipped seconds hand, self-winding movement and a case that has undergone antimagnetic treatment add another set of useful functions. Overall, design elaborations and subtleties cannot change the true character of a Fifty Fathoms watch: it is decidedly sports and function oriented. A historical collection (the first Fifty Fathoms watch was manufactured in 1953), it continues to evolve, as Blancpain dedicate time and research to this line of diver watches.

The highly important timepiece shines in Antiquorum's $5m sale
Last week, Antiquorum offered an excellent range of 467 fine and rare timepieces in their New York Important Collectors' Wristwatches, Pocket Watches & Clocks sale, last week (March 10).

Many of the pieces were from the famous 'Arman Collection' put together by world renowned artist Arman.
The auction was a huge success, with over 90% of lots sold and a sales total of $5,000,388. This was due in part to strong international interest, with phone and internet bids from Spain, Russia, China, Canada and Italy as well as live on the floor.
Although there were many great sales, the two stand-out performances were from Patek Philippe:
This top lot was a Platinum Patek Philippe Ref 3970, Ref. 3970 EP.

Created in 2004, the very fine and important, water-resistant, platinum wristwatch boasts a round button chronograph, register, perpetual calendar, moon phases, leap year, 24-hour indication and a platinum Patek Philippe deployant clasp. It brought $141,600.
Close behind was a white gold Patek Philippe Ref. 5970.

The very fine, astronomic, water-resistant, 18K white gold wristwatch has a square button chronograph, register, perpetual calendar, moon phases, tachometer, sapphire crystal back and an 18K white gold Patek Philippe deployant clasp. It was taken away for $138,000
"As confirmed by these results, prices realized for rare vintage and modern wristwatches have increased by 15% in the past year." commented watch designer and auctioneer Julien Schaerer. With the possible exception of vintage guitars, most investments haven't appreciated this well.

The new B01 chronograph movement is the luxury watchmaker's first completely in-house manufactured complication. Breitling has always shared a close and essential relationship with aviation, sports, and industry. It is no surprise that the maker of the first wrist chronograph and first fully automatic chronograph would pursue a higher standard of precision in its designer timepieces. By appropriating itself of the entire movement manufacturing process for the B01, Breitling can now oversee every detail of the chronograph's development.

The B01 project has created a revolutionary specialized assembly process that guarantees the integrity of each watch's quality. Movement along the assembly chain is conducted by an ultra sophisticated computer program that monitors and routes each movement throughout the various paths of assembly. The program alternates the movement's components in two phases. The first phase is fully automated and conducted exclusively by precise robotic arms. This ensures a better quality product as these machines have greater precision than a human hand. The second phase directs the components of the movement to a separate facility where partial manual assembly is required. Upon exiting the assembly chain, the movements are sent to the C.O.S.C. for extremely rigorous testing and analyzes.

The caliber B01 is available exclusively in its C.O.S.C certified version, with accompanying documentation to prove its clearance of highly meticulous precision testing. It is considered a high frequency movement at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The new Chronomat B01 features this new movement, and encases it beautifully in stainless steel, steel & gold, or 18k rose gold. This timepiece has been developed with endurance in mind and boasts 500 meters of water resistance. Another feature that has created excitement over this new Breitling movement is an optimized column-wheel device that provides a clean start/stop function without a jump of the hand. The movement is equipped with a 70 hour reserve which is an impressive feat considering its sleek shape. A patented self setting device for the resetting hammers does away with the traditional need to have a watchmaker correct each individual movement.

Exactly three years after the original Twin Rotating Tourbillon’s launch, Breguet offers a follow-up to the highly sought-after model featuring a pair of tourbillons on its silvered dial. This time, the watch comes in a case made of rose gold instead of platinum, but it still retails at a price of a Bentley limmo.

Just like the original model, the Breguet Classique Grande Complication 5347 Twin Rotating Tourbillon watch features a hand-wound mechanical movement with a pair of tourbillons traveling around its dial. Coupled by a differential gear, the little turbines balance each other, doubling the watch’s accuracy. The tourbillons rotate at a speed of one revolution per 12 hours so that their connecting bridge can act as an hour hand. It has a standard centrally mounted Breguet piece for the minute hand, though.
It’s been exactly a decade since Swatch Group acquired the Breguet brand from a Bahrainese investment company. During these ten years, Breguet is gradually returning to its roots, forgetting the era of constant financial troubles and slowly replacing sporty but tasteless chronographs with grand complication models. After all, it was Abraham-Louis Breguet who designed and crafted the first tourbillon watch.

Men's Omega New Constellation Watch

The 2009 Omega Constellation watches aim to cover a much wider audience with a great selection of sizes, dial option, and case materials for ladies and men. It can be said in this way: there is at least one one new Constellation perfectly suitable for you. New Constellation watches are available in five sizes, 24mm, 27mm, 31mm, 35mm, and 28mm(the last two sizes are men sizes). Case are presented on stainless steel, 18k yellow, pink gold and two-tone. Diamond versions and non-diamond versions are created to meet different demands of prospective buyers. A great choices of dial designs are offered for choosing: silver, champagne, mother of pearl, black and chocolate brown. All dials sport the Omega’s “Supernova” patter erupting from the “constellation star” at 6 o’clock, which is a brand-new feature that set new Constellation from old models.

New Constellation, as stated before, retains the iconic features of its ancestors, like the bracelet structure with horizontal links and bars, the famous claws that have been meticulously updated and the Constellation star at 6 o’clock position. Noticeable is that the triple deployant security clasp is given to the Mono Rang bracelet for maximum comfort. On non-diamond models, the bezel are still engraved with Roman numerals.

According to different sizes, 2009 new constellation watches applies different movements: the smaller two watches are powered by the 1376 quartz caliber; the 35mm models are driven by either the 1532 quartz caliber or the self-winding 2500 caliber with the Omega Co-Axial Escapement; the 31mm and 38mm models house Omega’s fully in-house 8520/8521 and 8500/8501 calibers.

Every new constellation watch is water resistant to 100 meter, and has equipped with a sapphire crystal and “Dauphine Plume” hands that are either rhodium plated or made of 18 Ct red or yellow gold and coated with Super-LumiNova.
