The Romance of Rose Gold Watches | Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust

Written by admin on January 27, 2012 – 11:49 am -

For decades, American watch buyers were enthralled by yellow gold, but in recent years that passion has largely shifted to pink and rose gold. Indeed, the rose-gold category has emerged as the leading precious metal available in today’s market. Its warm hues are derived by adding various amounts of copper to gold. The more added, the richer the tone. Depending on the ratio, the resulting color appears softer or richer, with each shade gradient assigned one of three specific codes: 3N, 4N, and 5N—from pale pink to deep, dusky rose. Rose gold experienced a wave of popularity during the 1940s, when pure gold was more difficult to come by. Postwar, watchmakers and jewelry designers reverted back to traditional yellow and white gold as the mainstays.... more

Luxury Swiss Watches as Investments Storms Back Onto Center Stage

Written by admin on January 19, 2011 – 7:46 pm -

by Nazanin Lankarani PARIS — Luxury watchmakers are flying high again, buoyed by a spectacular recovery in sales last year, and the optimism reflected in a flood of new models on show at the Salon de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva this week is also palpable in vintage watch salerooms. For many, last year marked a full recovery from the global crisis that hit the market in 2008. In the new watch sector, figures tallied and estimated by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry indicate that the Swiss industry’s export sales for the whole of last year probably reached 16 billion Swiss francs, or $16.5 billion, their second-highest level ever and just short of the record 17 billion francs achieved in 2007, according to Jean-Daniel Pasche,... more

Patek Philippe: Arguably the Best Watch Made

Written by admin on October 14, 2010 – 6:23 am -

One of the most prestigious Swiss watch brands of all time had an unlikely beginning in a meeting between a former Polish Cavalry officer and an inventive French Watchmaker. In 1832, Antoine de Pradwdzic, fleeing his country after an abortive revolt of the Polish army against Russian Czar Nicholas I, found himself in Geneva. He took Swiss nationality, changed his name to Patek, and in 1839 joined forces with another expatriate Pole named Czapek, who had some experience in the craft, to make watches. With the help of a small staff, they began producing highly decorative models in the contemporary Geneva fashion at the rate of about 200 per year. In 1844, when exhibiting at the Paris Exposition, Patek met a young French watchmaker named Adrien... more

New Steel Rolex Submariner Watch For 2010 | steel rolex submarine

Written by admin on September 3, 2010 – 2:27 am -

The long awaited new steel version of the new generation of Rolex Submariner watches is here. The official name is the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date. This is not a surprise release from the brand for 2010. However, the introduction of a standard green dial is something I didn't expect. Like clockwork, over the last few years Rolex has been updating their GMT Master II collection and then a white gold new Submariner. Last year the released a new two-tone (steel and gold) Submariner watch with a blue or a black dial. It was only logical that this year would see the release of a new all steel Submariner, ref. 116610. This is most important because the steel versions are the most popular - given their position as having the lowest cost... more

Written by admin on April 3, 2010 – 6:27 pm -

At Baselworld 2010, Breitling is to unveil its new Avenger Seawolf Chrono Blacksteel watch. The timepiece is best characterized as robust and highly technical. The zest of the new Breitling watch is the brand’s exclusive, patented magnetic push-piece system concealed inside the case. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Watch Review

Written by admin on March 27, 2010 – 5:26 pm -

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms diver watches constitute the apex of the company's Sports Collection. Fifty Fathoms timepieces combine technologically advanced movement (Calibre 1315) with a leaner, more restrained design than the testosterone-pumped Speed Command and Air Command. Yet despite shedding some “muscle mass”, the collection displays unmistakable masculine character – only instead of a body-builder's physique, the watches show off a swimmer's body, as appropriate for a diver watch. Fifty Fathoms include a women's line, which abandons the deep black in favor of a more mellow mother-of-pearl (also appropriately found in the sea) off-white palette. All Fifty Fathoms watches include a unidirectional rotating bezel (to prevent it from... more

Patek Philippe Ref 3970 brings $142k

Written by admin on March 23, 2010 – 4:34 am -

The highly important timepiece shines in Antiquorum's $5m sale Last week, Antiquorum offered an excellent range of 467 fine and rare timepieces in their New York Important Collectors' Wristwatches, Pocket Watches & Clocks sale, last week (March 10). Many of the pieces were from the famous 'Arman Collection' put together by world renowned artist Arman. The auction was a huge success, with over 90% of lots sold and a sales total of $5,000,388. This was due in part to strong international interest, with phone and internet bids from Spain, Russia, China, Canada and Italy as well as live on the floor. Although there were many great sales, the two stand-out performances were from Patek Philippe: This top lot was a Platinum Patek Philippe Ref 3970,... more
